In 2017, video conferencing and visual presentation of
business communications and materials saw a substantial shift as advancements
in the cloud and wireless technologies allowed vendors in the space to improve
their offerings.
Collaboration technologies and wireless presentation really
took their game to the next level in 2017, especially as they respond to
business need for ease and simplicity of use from the technology solutions.
There has been a dramatic increase in implementation of the visual
communication technologies specifically in huddle space format and the move by
many businesses to opt for cloud-based video conferencing as well as
collaboration technologies to allow remote functioning of the staff.
Higher Demand
Experts say that even though 2017 saw the recession in South
Africa, this did not hinder the growth in the industry of video communications.
Penny pinching by business instead saw an increased demand for technologies on
video conferencing as a way to help them in reducing operational expenses
through lower travel costs and improved productivity.
This 2018 and beyond, the world will definitely witness more
demand for the cloud-based communications. Cloud-based services’ scalability
and cost makes them perfect for deployment in businesses and these require less
skilled member of the staff for administration. The customers as well their
teams will require more interoperability in between several solutions and
mobility in the future. The contemporary end users want to participate better
in video meetings from the application and device they choose as a vendor in
the market. Once you failed to meet the demand, someone is going to do it
instead, and you are going to lose that customer.
Experts also say that there is a drive by Microsoft for
migrating business users from Skype and to Microsoft Teams on Office 365. They
say that this is going to affect how users communicate and collaborate in the
future as this opens doors for using additional solutions for communication
collaboration which are interoperable with Microsoft suite.
Brand New Partners
This channel itself witnessed a shift the previous year. The
channel based has been composed mainly of AV integrators. However, in 2017,
there has been shift where they on-boarded the host of brand new partners
coming from ISP and IT space. Video communications are becoming even more
relevant and are fast being considered as a business-critical tool for
communication that placed this on the priority list of IT.
Also, the traditional channel has become slow when it comes
to cloud adoption, and this has lead to careful creation of programs for the
traditional resellers which include proof of concept and education for them to
decide shifting to the cloud.
If a growth in a certain area happens, in general, there is
a decline in the other. There is an acceleration in pace in the demand for the
onsite video infrastructure is going downhill as businesses opt for the
scalability and cost efficiencies available in the cloud.
According to these shifts in the industry, the focus this
2018 is to continue identifying and promoting products which are interoperable
with Microsoft Teams and Skype.
